Review
Murach's ASP.NET 4.5 with VB 2012 is for both beginner and experienced programmers who wish to develop web applications using ASP.NET 4.5.
The first section shows you the basics of how to use Visual Studio and ASP.NET to design and code one or multipage applications and get data from a database. You'll also learn how to test and debug your applications. You'll also learn the essential HTML and CSS skills needed to work with ASP.NET.
The second section teaches server and validation controls, and state management. You'll also learn how to develop professional looking applications using master pages, site management, site navigation, and themes.
In Section three you'll learn to use the database features of ASP.NET. You'll learn to use data sources, bound controls, including the Listview and DataPager controls. Included are the object data sources and the LINQ data sources which take advantage of the Language Integrated Query (LINQ) features of Visual Basic for accessing data from many different sources.
Section four teaches how to secure your data transmissions, authenticate and authorize users, use profiles for personalization, send e-mails from your applications, and how to use the AJAX features of ASP.NET. You'll learn how to configure and deploy your ASP.NET applications, and create and use WCF services. Finally, you will learn how to build ASP.NET applications using the new MVC pattern.
What's great about this book is that all of the features are presented in the context of complete real world applications. You'll also appreciate Murach's standard pair paged format with detailed explanations on the left and code syntax on the right.
For those who prefer working with C#, Murach has also published C# edition of this book. You may find more information at Murach's ASP.NET 4.5 with C# 2012.
I highly recommend this book for beginners to ASP.NET and for more experienced ASP.NET programmers who will find it to be a most valuable reference for their day to day programming needs. You may read other reviews for this book at Amazon.com.
